Sunset on the Salt Marsh

Welcome to Palm Key and our award-winning Colony of Cottages nestled on a private 350-acre island that hugs the beautiful Broad River as it reaches toward the sea. Majestic live oaks fill the woodlands. Private fresh-water lakes are filled with bass and bream. Hunting hawks, egrets, ibis, wood storks, and heron glide through the sky.
Palm Key is a unique combination of a nature getaway and a learning center. It is the ideal place for fellowship, for connecting, and for growing. Whether you're planning a family vacation, a weekend with the girls, or a romantic getaway with that special person, Palm Key provides the ideal setting and accommodations. The staff at Palm Key is available to arrange all the details of your visit to ensure your stay meets your desired goals. We will tailor a package to suit your individual needs, whether your group is large or small.

From the time you arrive at Palm Key, bird calls are a constant backdrop. Over 250 species have been observed in the vicinity of the Broad River and Palm Key. In the salt marsh, see herons, ibis, eagles, ducks, pelicans, wood stork and others. We are pleased to offer birding excursions conducted by our onsite expert.

At Palm Key, we are surrounded by unspoiled wilderness! The salt marsh and black water rivers that we kayak through are some of the most diverse eco-systems in the world. Your guide will introduce you to many of the local inhabitants and offer historical information about the surroundings. We keep groups small so that everyone gets individualized attention.

Kayaking at Palm Key is unique in that no two kayak tours are ever alike. Our unique location, and the junction of the Broad (which leads to the Ocean), Pocotaligo, Tulifinny, and Coosawhatchie Rivers, allows for a variety of interesting trips. We help you design the trip that is right for you, based on where you want to go, what you want to see, when you want to go and how difficult of a trail you would like. We even have a moonlight kayak paddle for those who want to explore the marsh under the full moon.

Approximately 85 acres of the Palm Key property comprise our Nature Trail. Take a walk into the woods on one of the four marked trails, varying in length from .5 to 1.5 miles. The more adventurous can step off the trails and just explore! Our trail runs along the marsh and through the wilderness. One can expect to see a variety of birds, towering live oak trees, plenty of marsh crabs and much more of the flora and fauna that make this part of the country so unique.

For those with wanderlust, Palm Key is a great base camp for exploring the historic Low Country. We are just an hour from Charleston, 45 minutes from Savannah and 30 minutes from Beaufort. Step back in time as your explore the old South by visiting some of her most beautiful and historic cities.
