Getaway for a newly divorced 50 year old mom

Does anyone know a budget getaway from NYC? I'm looking for a weekend getaway, possibly
a long weekend in August...Anywhere I can take a bus or train ride would be nice.

How about the Finger Lakes region?

There are lots of options for a getaway in the Finger Lakes region.

While it may not be easy to get to by train and bus, it IS possible. Amtrak runs trains to Syracuse and Rochester; there are several bus lines that run from NYC to the area, also. You might take a train to Syracuse and a bus from there.

I'd suggest you choose a town you'd like to visit and focus your weekend there. There's a lot to do in the area, so pick a place that seems to match your interests, whether it's food and wine, shopping, outdoor activities, whatever.

They list accommodations from hotels and B&Bs to farms and guesthouses. They also list activities, fairs, local tours you could take, etc. Some are women-only, if that makes you feel more comfortable.

Whether you're going it alone or taking a friend, I'd think you'd have a great getaway in the Finger Lakes.
