The Northern lights or the aurora borealis is entering the most spectacular phase of its 11-year cycle. For the next 3 years the aurora borealis should be exceptional and the time to go for them, is now. What is aurora borealis? … a natural light display in the sky, particularly in the Polar Regions, caused by the collision of charged particles directed by the Earth's magnetic field. The phenomenon is best seen at cold, clear nights.
Iceland is one of the recommended earth spots where the aurora borealis can be observed. They are best observed outside town and you do not have to go far outside of Reykjavik to enjoy this spectacle. A good idea is to head out of town and stay one night in the country side, on the south coast. The advantage in Iceland is that you do not have to go great distances to be out in the nature. Choose an accommodation with hot pots, that is a must. The hot pots are filled with geothermal water from the naturally boiling undergrounds of Iceland, pure, natural water that makes you feel wow. The temperature of these hot-pots varies, from the heat of 35°C to 45°C.
Relax in one of these hot pots while observing the aurora borealis, these moments are magical and an unforgettable experience. You forget the stress and just soak into these magical moments.
You can also make the Northern light trip a real adventure trip, 3 days into the wilderness of Iceland with a Super Jeep and a driver guide. Experience bathing in a completely natural geothermal lake of Landmannalaugar. An ideal place to spot the northern lights.
